Privacy Policy

Effective August 19, 2026

Your journal should feel private. This policy explains what Vidjournal processes, what stays on your device, what may upload privately in the background, and the choices available to you.

Live speech transcription is designed to happen entirely on your device.

1. Scope

This policy applies to the Vidjournal apps for iOS, macOS, and Android, the website at vidjournal.app, and support communications. It does not govern third-party operating systems, app stores, device backups, or websites that have their own privacy practices.

2. Information Vidjournal processes

Vidjournal processes the video, audio, transcript, title, date, duration, and other details that make up an entry. The app may also process device and app information needed for compatibility, security, storage, upload status, crash diagnosis, and support. If you email support, we receive the information you choose to send.

3. On-device transcription

Your speech is transcribed live using capabilities on your device. Vidjournal is designed so your voice does not need to be sent to us or a remote transcription service to create the live transcript. Your operating system may provide the underlying speech-recognition technology under its own terms.

4. Local-first saving and private upload

Entries save to your device immediately so recording can be offline-safe and resilient to interruption. After local saving, an entry may upload privately in the background when a connection and operating-system conditions allow. Pending entries can remain only on the device until upload finishes, so deleting the app, clearing its data, or resetting the device may remove them.

5. How information is used

We use information to provide and secure Vidjournal, save and deliver entries, maintain upload state, respond to support, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and improve reliability. We do not use journal content for targeted advertising.

6. When information is shared

We may use service providers that help operate secure hosting, delivery, support, and diagnostics, subject to appropriate confidentiality and security obligations. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets. We do not sell journal content.

7. Retention and deletion

Local copies remain on your device until you delete them, remove the app, clear app data, or the operating system removes them. Privately uploaded copies are retained as needed to provide the service and honor your choices. Some limited records may remain for security, backup integrity, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No device, network, or storage system is completely secure. Protect your device with a passcode, install operating-system updates, and avoid sharing access to your journal.

9. Device permissions and choices

Vidjournal asks for camera and microphone access to record entries, and may request storage, notification, or background-activity permissions where needed. You can review permissions in system settings, but disabling a required permission may prevent related features from working. You can stop using the app and delete local entries at any time.

10. Children

Vidjournal is not directed to children below the minimum age required to consent to digital services where they live. If you believe a child has provided information contrary to applicable law, contact us so we can review the request.
